| Hello and welcome to the IBEW Local 480 website. As most of you are aware, work continues to be slow in the area. We have begun to pick up some work but most of it has not started yet. However, the jobs outlook is getting better knowing these jobs are on the way.
We are continuing our organizing efforts and I would like to take this opportunity to invite anyone who is visiting our website and is not a member of the IBEW, to come by our offices and talk to one of our staff. You can find out how to take advantage of the wages, benefits, and educational opportunities the IBEW has to offer you. You and your family can have a brighter future with the IBEW. |
In the aftermath of the devastating tornado that hit in Simpson County recently, the IBEW International offices and Local 480 members provided hundreds of cases of bottled water to displaced residents in the affected area. Our efforts were greatly appreciated by the Emergency Management personel and residents of Simpson County. Sheriff Lewis asked that I pass along his thanks and appreciation to all of the IBEW members and staff who helped during this time. I would also like to thank Fountain Construction for providing us a truck to carry the water down to Simpson County. The Employee Free Choice Act continues to be a hot topic for most American workers. The EFCA is being presented, by those who oppose it, as legislation that would cause small businesses to close, cost jobs, and eliminate the secret ballot vote. Nothing could be further from the truth. We now have booklets that are available at the Union Hall for anyone who would like to have one. It addresses the myths vs realities of the Employee Free Choice Act. Stop by the Union Hall and pick one up so that you can be informed on this important piece of legislation. Sample messages are available in the booklet and can be used as a guide when contacting your U.S. senators and representatives. Feel free to include your own thoughts in your letter and let them know you support the Employee Free Choice Act.
In closing, I hope everyone has a safe summer season and ask that you remember to attend YOUR union meetings during this busy time of year.
